The bar chart illustrates the number of different post-school academic qualification holders in Australia, broken down by gender, in 1990. Overall, the total number of post-school qualified men predominated over female. The most striking difference is observed in the figures for skilled vocational diplomas, with women holding only about one-ninth of the number held by men.
Nearly 100% of men held a skilled vocational diploma which illustrates the most striking difference from the chart. According to the chart, only slightly more than 10% of women held this qualification. Other two items followed a similar trend that the figure of men was more than of women on the contrary with less huge gaps. Firstly, less than half of the proportion of women(30%) then man(70%) held a postgraduate diploma. Secondly, 60% of men qualified with the master’s degree, while 30% for women.
On the other hand, women show an advantage in the other two categories: undergraduate diploma and bachelor’s degree. About 70% of women held an undergraduate diploma, while only half of the amount applied to men, showing an opposite trend of postgraduate diploma figure. However, there was a smaller gap between two genders in bachelor’s degree, with women had 10% more than of men.
