The chart compares the proportion of households in sold and rented property in the state of Spain in the time frame of a one century from 1940 to 2040.
Overall, it can be observed clearly that the households in owned accomodation has grown dramatically, while the households in rented property has declined over the period shown.
In 1940, the percentage of owned property accomodation was at around 80%. Subsequently, it plummeted down to above 60% in the next two decades. In 1980, the percentages of both types were at the same point at about 50%. In the next fourty years, the figure dropped down to below 30%.
The percentage of households in owned properties was at slightly above 25% in the beginning. The figure grew gradually up to 40% in the next three decades. However, the growing trend became more apparent in 1980, where it was at almost 55%. In 2010 the percentage has reached its peak at 70%, followed by a sharp decrease in the next 10 years.
