The given pie-chart illustrates the proportion of women in poverty by household composition in the United States in 2008 and the bar chart depicts different rates of poverty according to categories of age and sex.
Overall, it is clearly apparent that single women with independent children hold the highest percentage in poverty and the poverty rates were significantly higher for the age groups of under 5 and 18 to 24 for females.
The pie chart delineates that single women with no dependent children accounted for the highest ratio of 54%, followed by that of dependent children, covering 26%. However, the proportion was least for the married women. Those who had dependent child hold only 12% and those who were with independent children composed 8%.
Moving to the bar chart, the poverty rates were almost 20% for both sexes, lying under the age of 5. Then, the rates slightly declined approximately to 15% for the age groups of 5 to 17. But, the poverty rates for men group continued to decline from the age groups of 18 to 24, even having a little fluctuation in the mid-age group. Talking about the females group, their rates also began to fell down. Even though, their rates were higher than that of males.
