Overall, it is manifestly evident that suitable degree courses remain major driver to pursue higher education in both years, with other determinants trailing distantly behind in terms of proportions. Of particular note is the fact that, sport and activities accounted for the least reasons in initial year; however, in the final year its rates significantly increased.
Analyzing the percentage of 2008, suitable degree courses dwarfs its other counterparts, making the bulk of the reasons, with 38%. Following some way in terms of proportion was the quality of teaching, at 30%, while proximity to home encouraged almost a half the reasons of quality of teaching, with 17%. Reputation on the institution and sport or activities formed the smallest percentages, with former amounting 8% and latter comprising a further 7%.
By 2017, the figures in the mix had shifted considerably. The relevance of degree courses remained in the leading position, making up 32%. Followed by, quality of teaching, which was the second largest cause, at 26%, whereas, sports and activities did about a half of the suitable degree courses. Moving on proximity on parental home, only 13% was generated, followed by reputation on the institution for 12%.
