The two-line charts compare the proportion of people who used either public transportation or private vehicles in five cities across Australia over a ten-year period, from 2000 to 2010. Overall, it is clear that the percentage of individuals using private cars was significantly higher than the use of public transportation in each city. Furthermore, cities such as Adelaide and Perth had stable trends within both categories, whereas Brisbane had a considerable rise in public transportation usage.
Looking first at public transportation, the line chart shows that Adelaide and Perth had the lowest proportions of users and remained stable over the decade (from 2000 to 2010), at around 5% and 10%, respectively. At the beginning of the period, Brisbane had a similar percentage, at 15%. After that, it saw a steady increase until 2006. In the following years, the proportion remained stable at around 28%, almost double its initial level.
Turning to private car users, Adelaide showed a slight climb, rising from 70% in 2000 to 90% in 2010. In contrast, Brisbane dipped in 2003 to around 20%, while Sydney peaked at approximately 40% in 2006, then slightly declined to about 30% by 2010.
