The pie charts illustrate the proportion of attendees in different courses at an adult education centre in 1985 and at the present.
Overall, it is evident that both Art and Modern Languages courses have had a certain decrease over the years, while Cookery has gained an increase and Fitness and dance courses have remained the same. The most notable revolution has been the replacement of Local History and Music appreciation courses with IT courses.
According to the 1985 chart, Modern languages ranked first with 24% of the total students, closely followed by Fitness and dance with 22%. Meanwhile, Cookery, Art and Local History shared similarities, in the vicinity of 14% to 17%. Finally, Music appreciation held the smallest share of the chart, which was only 8%, to be specific.
In recent years, there has been a clear shift toward the new technology course, which held the lion’s share of 27%, even more than the total of History and Music courses in 1985, proving its necessity to society. The fitness courses, however, still remain the same at second place with 22%, whilst cookery has gained a slight increase of 5% in the proportion of participants. Art, on the other hand, has dropped slightly, now presenting 15% and Modern Language, in turn, have seen a significant decline from 24% to 17%.
