The pie chart indicates the proportion of water consumed for various purposes in six regions of the world.
Overall, it is clear that industrial water usage is the highest in North America and Europe, while other regions are dominated by agricultural use. Moreover, domestic water usage accounts for only a small percentage across all regions.
In general, the percentage of agricultural water usage is notably higher, ranging between 81% and 88% in Africa, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia. In contrast, the other three areas show a more balanced distribution, with agricultural use at 39% in North America, 71% in South America, and 32% in Europe.
Focusing on domestic water usage, the proportion of total water consumption is significantly lower than that of industrial and agricultural usage. Domestic water usage stands at 7% in both Central Asia and South Asia, while it makes up the highest percentage in South America at 19%. Additionally, the remaining percentages are 13% in North America, 15% in Europe, and 9% in Africa. By contrast, industrial water usage is most prominent in Europe, where it reaches 53%, much higher than North America’s 48%. The remaining regions show much lower levels, all below 12%.
