The bar charts illustrate the likelihood of certain age groups to buy theatre, concert, and cinema tickets online over the first 3 months in 2006 and how the tickets were purchased online across 3 different countries – Australia, UK, and Malaysia.
Overall, the younger demographic of Australia and UK show a strong preference for online purchasing of tickets, while the older population is the predominant one in Malaysia. On the other hand, the majority of ticket sales were made through a desktop computer in all 3 countries, followed by laptop and mobile phone.
In the first chart, the trend is similar in Australia and the UK. in which people aged 25-44 chose to buy their tickets online more than those aged above 65 at about 55% for the former compared to approximately 45% and 40% respectively for the latter. Malaysia however the elderly preferred to buy their tickets online slightly more than the young population at around 40% and 35% respectively.
According to the second chart, the pattern is consistent across all 3 countries, with desktop being the most common means of access, ranging from nearly 60% up to about 65%, followed by laptop at 40% in Australia and Malaysia and 30% in the UK. Finally, mobile phones were rarely used to purchase tickets online at around 25% in both Australia and the UK in comparison to 30% in Malaysia.
