The life cycle of a cicada includes three steps: egg, nymph and adult.
Firstly, female cicadas lay eggs inside of the tree branches. After about two to seven months, the eggs hatch and the nymphs appear. These nymph then live underground and dig tunnels near tree roots. They live in there for two to seventeen years, growing and maturing.
When they fully grown, they come out of the ground and clinb onto trees. They shed their old skin. This moulting process takes approximately 20 to 150 minutes. After that, the wings appear and they become adults.
As adults, they mate and lay egg. When their egg hatch, the cycle starts again.
