The entire process displays how pineapples are cultivated and processed, starting from planting and ending with the finished products ready for export and consumption.
Overall, the process consists of two main stages which are the growth and initial harvesting of pineapples, and their subsequent processing and packaging. The fruit can be used for direct sale or for producing canned goods and juice.
Initially, pineapples are grown for approximately 12 months in temperatures ranging from 23-30 celsius. After reaching roughly 30 cm in height and a weight of 2 kg, the fruit is treated with a chemical called ethanline for five months to stimulate ripening. Once the pineapples are fully grown, they are harvested and thoroughly washed.
Once harvested, the pineapples are washed thoroughly. Following this, they are either polished with protective wax for preservation or go through furtherprocessing. Those prepared for direct consumption are coated with wax, packed into boxes, and exported overseas.
On the other hand, pineapples that undergo industrial processing are peeled, and the crown is removed. The fruit is then sliced into pieces. They are either canned and preserved or placed into a juice extractor, producing packaged pineapple juice.
