The diagram illustrates how West Park Secondary School has developed since 1950, when it was first built.
Overall, the school underwent substantial expansion over the 60-year period, with notable increases in building space and parking facilities, while its recreational areas became smaller.
In 1950, the school consisted of a single building situated along the main road, next to a row of houses on its left. Behind the school lay a large playground, located to the right of an area of farmland.
Thirty years later, in 1980, the houses were demolished and replaced by a car park and a new science block, while the original school building became the main building. At the same time, the farmland was converted into a new sports field, but the playground remained unchanged.
By 2010, the car park had been expanded, occupying the area that previously contained the sports field. Consequently, around one-third of the old playground was transformed into a new, much smaller sports field.
