The pie charts compare male and female social media users in terms of how frequently they used in Australia in two different years- 2011 and 2014. Overall, compared to men, more women tended to use social media in every day while the proportion of males who never use social media was higher than females despite declining in the latter year. In every day usage of social media by both genders increased noticeably.
In terms of social media usage, the rate of men who the never used social media was high, accounting for around 44% in 2011, which declined to 30% in 2014. The percentage of men who used it every day and few times a week made up 25% and 19%, respectively in 2011. Meanwhile, 12% of people used social media in once a week, making this category the least. However, in 2014, using social media in few times a week and once a week by men went down with the respective figure of their 16% and 9% whereas the noticeable increase was recorded to 45% in the share of people using it every day.
Regarding to women’ proportion in using social media, in 2011, every day and once a week usage made up 30% and 39%, with increasing to 59% in the former and declining to 10%, respectively in 2014. In the usage of social media few times a week by women presented a downward trend from 22% in 2011 to 9% in 2014, while the percentage of people never using social media grew to 22% in 2014 from 8% in 2011.
