The given graphs illustrate the proportion of young participants in Australia in sports outside school hours in 2014. In general, while more girls were interested in swimming, netball and no sports, the opposite was true for boys. Additionally, football received the highest rate of schoolboys’ participation, while the figure for netball was the lowest.
For male children, the proportion of participation in football was highest, at 20%, while the figure for no sports and netball were dramatically lower, accounting for approximately 5% and 2% respectively. Compared to about 13% of boys who took part in swimming, the percentage of basketball players was significantly lower than 10%, making up about 8%.
Regarding female children, netball was the most popular sport, accounting for approximately 18%, while the figure for football was the lowest, at about 4%. Additionally, while more than 15% of girls took part in swimming, the proportions of basketball and no sports were significantly lower, at 7% and 5% respectively.
