The table compares the proportion of unemployment across 9 different countries in the years 1994 and 2004.
Overall, Ireland led the ranking in 1994, however, it represented the lowest rate in 2004, leaving Poland as the country with highest number of jobless people.
Examining the regions with the majority of unemployed people, Ireland showed the largest proportion at 14.8% and Poland was the country with the second most jobless individuals who constituted 12.4% of the whole labour. Likewise, Italy and Canada represented another biggest segments at 11.8% and 10.6% respectively. All of these countries, namely Ireland(4.4%) , Poland(19%), Italy(8.4%), and Canada(7.7%), decreased in number of unemployed people except Poland, in 2004.
Turning to the areas which were lesser contibuting to the whole proportion, all contries represented the joblessness rate between 6% and 9.5% excluding Japan, where the lowest rate was recorded at 2.7%, but then rose to 4.5%. Furthermore, the USA, Australia, and the UK witnessed a moderate drop to 5.4%, 4.7%, and 4.7% respectively. Conversely, Germany experienced a growth in unemployent, resulting in the second highest joblessness rate at 9.4% in 2004.
