The line chart below illustrates the number of people in Chile, which is divided into 3 groups: 0-14 years old, 15-64 years old and 65 years old and over from 1975 to 2025.
Overall, while the yearly population of Chile increased significantly, the opposite was true for the 0-14 years group . Also, the figure for 65 years and over group was lowest during the period.
In 1975, the number of people in the 15-64 years old group was the highest and accounted for about 52% of the total number of people in Chile. This high continued to maintain and at the end of the period, the number of people whose age between 15 and 64 increased to about 61%.
With people 65 years old and over, their group also saw an upward trend. Starting with about 5% of the population in 1975, the number of people 65 years and over steadily increased and in 2035 this rate is expected to reach approximately 15% of the population. By contrast, in 1975, the population of the 0-14 years old group was about 39% and was the second highest in 3 groups. However, this percent decreased dramatically throughout the period. In 2024, it dropped to about 20% and is expected to continue to lessene to around 18% in 2035.
