The line graphs illustrate the percentage of unemployment in Ireland as well as the rate of people migrating to other countries from 1988 to 2008.
Overall, both trends showed some fluctuations over the period. At the beginning of the period, although unemployed workers stood at the highest point and some drops, it surged at the end of the year. While people rates left the country remained the same.
As can be seen, in 1988, which was the year that had the highest figure for unemployments, at approximately 17% and then dropped to around 13% in 1990. In 2000, more people had been employed and lower the umemployment rate to 4%. However, it increased sharply to roughly 9% in 2008.
On the other hand, the number of people leaving the nation was 40,000 in 1988, and then increased dramatically to around 70,000 in the next 2 years. From 1990 onwards, the figure was a dramatic decreased and some fluctuations. In the end of the period, it rose slightly to above 40,000.
