The pie charts represent the proportions of energy usage of Australian households and greenhouse gas emissions from this energy use.
Overall, it can be seen that the highest energy consumption was for heating and the highest greenhouse gas emissions were from water heating.
Heating used the biggest portion of energy, which was 42%, while greenhouse gas emissions from this source were only at 15%. Again, water heating used 32% of the household’s energy, which was responsible for almost the same proportion of greenhouse gas emissions.
The remaining portion of energy was used by cooling, lighting, other appliances, and refrigeration. The amount of energy these factors used was almost doubled in terms of greenhouse gas emissions. Lighting and refrigeration used 4% and 8% of the energy, respectively, and greenhouse gas emissions from these sectors were 8% and 14%. Energy used by cooling and other appliances was 2% and 15%, while they were producing 3% and 28% of greenhouse gas emissions in Australia
