Overall, although rugby was the most popular sport at the beginning, it was overtaken by tennis in the first half of this period. Moreover, the number of people participating in badminton and basketball stayed at the same level during the survey period.
In the first decade, rugby was the sport which had the highest number of participants, starting at around 250. Additionally, from 1995 backwards, it witnessed a sharp increase in the number of people playing tennis. This rising led the rank of tennis participants to reach the same levels as rugby by the mid-1990s. And from 1995 to 2005, while the number of people taking part in rugby continued to fall dramatically from 200 to 50, there was a slight increase in the figure of people playing tennis by 20, and tennis became the highest participation sport over the period.
Participation in basketball started from 90 participants, then decreased slightly to 80 in 1990 but rose again, ending at around 100 by 2005. In addition, badminton almost exactly mirrored basketball fluctuation trends. The number of people playing badminton started at around 55 in 1985, dropped slightly to 48 in 1990 before remaining stable at about 50 participants over the rest of the period. Moreover, before 2005, the figure of people who participating in badminton always hit the lowest point. However, by 2005, badminton participation matched the figure for rugby, reached the same level and became the least popular activity.
