The chart illustrates the proportion of male and female academic staff members across different faculties of a major university in 2012.
Overall, it is clear that male staff accounted for the largest involvement in the engineering field and the least in education. In contrast, females dominated the education field and the least in engineering respectively. There were relatively more male staffs in business, engineering, law and science whereas females dominated faculties like arts, education.The proportion of the two genders remained nearly equal in the medicine faculty.
For men, they dominated the engineering faculty with 85 percent majority. Both business and science faculty saw the same proportion of men leading at 62% with the law field falling shortly behind at 60%. Involvement in art and medicine saw a slight decline with the education category being the lowest at 25 percent.
In contrast, a large proportion of females participated in the education field at 72 %. Meanwhile, the medical and arts field had nearly or slightly more than 50% staff being women. In terms of law, science, business and engineering there were lower female counterparts with the latter accounting for the least at 18 percent.
