Starting with importation, in 2002 Australia imported goods worth around $4.3 billion AUD from China, importation from the USA started with just above $1.5 billion AUD, however business with Japan in the same year was below $1 billion AUD. By 2003, Australian trade with China had plummeted, it however rose significantly and by 2005 it was already at $4.5 billion AUD. However, the USA and Japan had almost the same trend, they both had marginally increased and by 2004 they increased drastically with the USA reaching $2.3 billion AUD, although by 2005 it had slightly dropped however, Japan further increased to about 1.7 billion Australian dollars.
On the exportation route, Australia exported to China and the USA was below $2.5 billion AUD in 2002 while that of Japan was slightly above $1 billion AUD. Although the value of goods the China reached its peak in 2003, by 2004 it had decreased significantly, it however rose to just below $3 billion Australian dollars. The value of goods that were exported to the USA and Japan increased year on year and by 2005 it had risen to around $2.8 billion AUD and $2.6 billion AUD respectively.
