The two pie charts ilustrate the means of transport citizens in European city used in order to get to work.
Generally, comparing both periods it’s noticeable that average distance to the office had increased substantially and people spend twice as much time on road, also regarding the types of transport used, cars became way more popular and less people walked work in 2009.
To begin with, in 1959 the common distance between home and office was 3.5 km which allowed the majority (55%) to cover that distance on foot. Also trains and busses were equally popular, each taking 15%. Fewer people used cars and 5% left to other transports.
In comparison with 1959 in 2009 number of individuals deciding to walk to work shrinked twice in size and cars became most used transport to get to work with 35% respectively. Usage of trains and buses remained almost the same yet other transports share rose to 12%.
