In general, the average distance and average duration witnessed a dramatic rise from 1959 to 2009. Noticeably, most people went to work on foot in 1959, this was contrasted to the tendency in 2009 while car was the most popular means of transport.
In 1959, 55% of people who went to work on foot, which is the dominant at that time, however, this figure for foot reduced by half in 2009, with roughly 25%. In contrast, despite standing at 10% at the beginning, the percentage of people who used car surged by three times, surpassing the figure for foot, with 35% in 2009.
A similar pattern can be seen in the figure for other means of transport when it increased significantly from 5% to 12% at the end of period time. While bus witnessed a slight decrease from 15% to 13% in 2009, the figure for train was unchanged, which retained at 15% throughout the time.
