In 1994, the percentage of sales of Motorola stood at around 32%, the highest figure that year. In the same year, the figure for Nokia was about 21%, whereas that of Sony Ericsson was lower at 11%. Between 1994 and 1998, the percentage of mobile phone sales that manufactured by Motorola decreased rapidly from 32% to 23%. By contrast, the figure for Nokia fluctuated between 20% and 24%, eventually surpassed that of Motorola at 23% in 1998. During the same period, the proportion of Sony Ericsson sales experienced a slight increase from 11% to approximately 15%.
Over the next six years, the market share of Nokia grew sharply, and peaked at 37%, which is the highest figure in the chart, in 2002. From 1998 to 2004, the percentage of Motorola and Sony Ericsson sales witnessed a minor drop to 18% and 10% respectively.
