The line graph gives information about the various kinds of spreads, namely margarine, low fat and reduced spreads, which were consumed over 26 years between 1981 and 2007.
Overall, it is clear that all types of spreads decreased considerably over the given period with the exception of low fat and reduced spreads . At the start of the period, butter was the most popular spread, however, it was replaced by margarine from 1991 to 2001. Then the low fat and reduced spreads became the most preferable spread onwards.
With regard to, the consumption of butter started at about 143 grams and reached a peak of just under 160 grams in 1986 before declining enormously to about 50 grams until the end of the period. Similarly, the margarine started at around 90 grams in the year 1981. Afterwards, this number fluctuated slightly and dived to 40 grams in the final years.
On the other hand, the consumption of low fat and reduced spreads begun at approximately 10 grams in 1996. Then this number witnessed a sharp growth to about 85 grams in 2001 and dipped steadily to 40 grams until the end of the given period.
