The line graph gives information about the cost for watching movies in three categories of access – Go to the Cinema, Rent a DVD, and Legal Download – in a 6-year period from 2005 to 2011. Meanwhile, the accompanying pie charts show the proportion of market share of each category in the first and last year respectively.
Overall, whole categories experienced an upward trend of cost over the period, albeit with a slightly different pattern of growth. In terms of sale proportion, renting a DVD was the highest among all both in the beginning of the period and the end, while the second place was changeably placed by Cinema Ticket in first year and watching online by the last year.
The price of cinema tickets commenced from about 9 pounds sterling in 2005 to approximately 14 pound sterling by 2011. Similarly, DVD rent started from roughly 6 pounds sterling in the first year, increasing to approaching 8 pounds sterling by the last year. However, legal download, which cost nearly 8 pounds sterling in 2005, exhibited a drop to just above 6 pounds sterling in 2007, prior to climbing considerably to around 9 pounds sterling by 2011.
In terms of market share percentage, renting DVD significantly dominated in both years, reaching 64% in 2005 and 56% by 2011. In contrast, while going to the cinema gained 30% in the first year, it dropped to only 18% by the last year, watching online rise from just 6% in 2005 to 26% by 2011.
