The two maps provided present information about the developments of Frenton during a 22-year period, between 1990 and 2012.
Overall, the town underwent significant modernization, including the introduction of new facilities such as a cinema, supermarket, restaurant, and hotel with a golf course. Meanwhile, some areas, like playing fields with trees, a cafe, and a park, were removed, making Frenton a more residential and urbanized area.
Looking at the layout in 1990, the town had a peaceful atmosphere with plenty of green spaces: playing fields with trees were located in the north, while a large cafe and park were placed near the centre. Additionally, trees occupied the southwestern part of the town. A shop was situated in the southeast corner, with houses occupying the north. A theatre was positioned just above the shop. Other major buildings included a school in the northwest, a hospital near the centre, a library adjacent to it, and a bank between them. Furthermore, High Street ran through Frenton, dividing it into two sections.
By 2012, the layout of Frenton had transformed noticeably with the addition of more modern developments. The playing fields and the theatre were replaced by a hotel and a golf course. The residential area enlarged significantly with the construction of several blocks of flats, replacing older houses and playing fields. In addition, a restaurant was introduced in place of the bank, and trees were converted into a Technopark. Whereas the hospital was expanded in size, the school and library remained unchanged. However, a supermarket was built instead of the s
hop.
