The maps illustrate the changes of the public park from 1929 to the present day.
Overall, the area became more developed over the period. Several original features, such as the fountain and glasshouse, have been removed, while new facilities including a cafe, a children’s play area and an underground car park have been added.
In the first map, the centre of the park contained a huge fountain, which has now been replaced by a rose garden with seating areas. The stage for musicians located on the left side has been renovated into an amphititheatre for concerts. In addiction, The glasshouse in the south-east corner was demolished and replaced with a water feature.
Over the period shown, there was a pond for water plants in the north-east of the park, but this place has been transformaded into a children’s play area. A cafe has also been constructed near the northern entrance. Meanwhile, a new underground car park has been built below the park, accessiable from Eldon street. However, the main entrances remain in the same locations.
