The diagrams illustrate the transition from the coal mining site into a visitors’ attraction.
Overall, there are several changes, the most significant of which is the replacement of mining facilities with recreational amenities catering to tourism, the demolition of two waste tips, and the addition of a footpath.
Regarding the northern part of its site, the office and the staff changing room, which used to be located in the northwest corner, are merged and redeveloped into a museum. In the central part, an entrance for the underground mine for workers has been repurposed for visitors’ use. Adjacent to the entrance, the waste tip 1, which occupies the northeast part, has been converted into a picnic area, accompanied by the development of a different driving track in the north. In the centre of its site, a cafe has been erected in the former space of the medical room.
Moving on to the southern section of its site, the car park, located in the southwest corner remain unchanged over time. In the southeast part, the waste tip 2 has been transformed completely into a children’s play area, providing additional space to entertain children while visitors pay a visit to other attractions. Additionally, in the middle of the southern side, a souvenir shop has been built, replacing the lorry park. Notably, a new footpath has been erected, connecting the souvenir shop and cafe to the newly created recreational zones in the east.
