The maps illustrate the changes made to the art gallery from 1950 to the present.
Overall, the gallery has undergone several new alterations, most of the new art exhibitions have come at the cost of the courtyard.
In 1950, there was a large courtyard located on the northern side of the building. By now, it has been replaced with the new children’s art school, Australian Aboriginal art, and Australian art. The entrance to the gallery was from the south, with a huge sculpture room in the middle, and the early European art, the middle European art, and the Australian art were located on the right side. While the room that previously housed the Australian art has been fitted out with Asian art, others have remained intact.
On the bottom left side of the building, there was a bookshop, north of which was a temporary exhibition. They have also stayed unchanged over the period. To the north of the temporary exhibition, a cafe was located, which has been reduced in size, and a new toilet has been built beside it.
