The maps illustrates the layout of the art gallery in Australia as it was in the 1950, and how it is nowadays.
Overall, there was many signifcant changes made to the art gallery. While some original sections have been preserved, the most striking change is the removal of the courtyard to make room for three new facilities and exhibition rooms.
Regarding the two sides of the entrance, which is located in the southern side of the art gallery, leading directly to the scuplture displays in the open area in the center of the art gallery. Looking at the left hand side of the entrance, people could see a bookshop situated in the bottom left corner of the art gallery. There was also a café along the east side of the art gallery and the temporary exhibition was located between the café and the bookshop. Now, three sections remain their original positions. In terms of the right hand side of the entrance, Australian Art used to be placed in the bottom right corner of the art gallery. However, it have been replaced by the Asian Art. Moreover, the Middle European Art was opposite the Temporary Exhibition and the Early European Art was next to it to the right. In these day, the location of them is still unchanged.
At the back of the building, there was a courtyard facing the entrance in the year 1950. Over the years, it is repurposed to make space for three new areas, including Children Art school, Australian Aboriginal Art and Australian Art, arranged from left to right.
