The bar chart shows the number of different types of vehicles registered in use in a European country from 1996 to 2006.
What is most striking when looking at the data is the overall increase in the number of vehicles, with the exception of motorcycles and lorries, which experienced a decrease. It is also important to note that private cars remained the most common type of vehicle, while buses were the least common.
In 1996, private cars had the highest figure at about 19 million, and this number increased significantly to 24 million in 2006. Other types of vehicles also rose from around 1.2 million to 1.9 million. However, motorcycles showed a small decline, going down from about 1 million to 0.6 million.
Looking at the remaining categories, lorries and buses had much lower numbers compared to other vehicles. The number of lorries dropped sharply from 0.5 million in 1996 to only 0.1 million in 2006. Meanwhile, buses remained stable at around 0.1 million in both years.
