Overall, there were numerous alterations to the building, mainly involving the relocation of existing departments and the erection of some visitor amenities, making it more spacious and friendly.
In the center of the museum was a garden, which remained relatively intact throughout, despite the addition of a café sitting zone at the northwest corner and two fountains in the southern part by 2008. To the north of the garden was solely occupied by a café in 1998, but it was reduced in size to make space for a WC. Meanwhile, in the middle south of the museum was persistently where tickers were sold, featuring the entrance or exit for visitors.
Regarding the western half of the museum, about two-thirds of its space used to serve as a permanent exhibition room, while the remaining southern corner was used for temporary exhibition. In the following decade, the only temporary exhibition room of the museum was expanded and situated to the west of the garden, while its previous location was transferred to a cloakroom and a shop. Another notable change was a newly-added restaurant at the northwest corner.
Concerning the other half, it used to accommodate two permanent exhibition rooms and a combination of specialized rooms (a shop, a WC, and a cloakroom) adjacent to the entrance. While the two displaying zones experienced no changes, the aforementioned group was demolished and transformed into a new area for permanent exhibition.
