The maps show the developments that took place at the seaside resort of Templeton between 1990 and 2005.
In 1990, the town was a much greener residential area with a large number of trees and individual houses, but during the next 15 years the town experienced a number of dramatic changes. The most striking feature of the maps is that the majority of trees were cut down across both sides of the river to make way for new developments. To the north, trees were cleared and replaced by an airport near the river. In the south-west a new supermarket replaced what had formerly been individual houses and trees.
Further developments included the construction of a ferry on the southern coast and a new stretch of railway running alongside it. A factory also sprang up along the southern part of the river, occupying land that was previously green and undeveloped. The school, hospital, and parking area remained unchanged throughout.
Overall, a comparison of the two maps reveals a change from a largely rural to a mainly urban landscape, driven by commercial and transport development.
