The above pie chart shows the contribution rate data of different industries for sixteen years in Turkey.
Overall, at the beginning of the period, the construction sector contributed the least to the Turkish economy, while agriculture was the most important economic sector. However, by the end of the period, on the contrary, health and education became the largest economic sectors, while business and other services declined dramatically.
In 2000, health and education remained steady at 17% for both years. Trade, utilities, and transport grew modestly from 14% to 16%. Agriculture was the largest sector, accounting for 24% of the economy. However, sixteen years later, its contribution had dropped dramatically to just 14%. In contrast, the construction sector had increased significantly, from 3% in 2000 to 10% in 2016. The manufacturing sector also increased by 4%, from 8% to 12%.
However, in contrast to the positive growth, the share of the government sector decreased from 12% to 9%. Leisure and hospitality decreased slightly from 17% to 14%. Meanwhile, finance, business, and other sectors increased by 3% in 2016 (to about 8%).
