Overall, in Sweden and the United Kingdom, underground burial is the most popular means of dealing with waste materials while in the Republic of Korea, recycling is used the most. In addition, the UK uses unconventional ways of dealing with waste products as an alternative for recycling.
Regarding United Kingdom and Sweden, underground burial is mostly utilized to deal with dangerous products. The UK buries 82% of the waste underground, the highest among the countries, followed by Sweden with 55%. Additionally, Sweden recycles a quarter of the total waste and incinerates the rest, whereas the UK uses other methods such as chemical treatment and dumping at sea instead of recycling to deal 8% of the waste each. In addition, only 2% is burned in fire, the lowest among all.
By contrast, the Republic of Korea recycles most of their waste. More than half of the waste (69%) is recycled in the country, while only 22% is buried underground. By contrast, almost one-tenth of the waste undergoes incineration process.
