Overall, young adults preferred using Facebook and YouTube the most, whereas Twitter is the most popular among older adults. Focusing first on 18-34 and 35-49 age groups, the young adults’ usages show relatively similar percentages, ranging from 29% to 30%. While the proportion of older people using Twitter made up precisely 40%, nearly double that of Facebook and YouTube which were slightly over a quarter. Moreover, while Twitter was as prevalent as other sites among young adults, it was predominantly used by older people.
In terms of remaining categories, among children there was little difference in platform usage percentages. The figure for this demographic accounted for from 18% to 20%, it showed a lion share in three sites. Older adults made up for only 9% of Twitter users, while Facebook and YouTube were more popular among them at 14% and 15% respectively. Lastly, elderly showed the lowest proportions of activity on social media, with only 10% of Facebook and 9% of YouTube users belonging to them, especially those who rarely access Twitter.
