The pie chart above illustrates the percentage of students prefering overseas languages in the UK in 2009 and 2014.
Overall, it is seen that french takes up the biggest part of the chart in both years and that russian remains the least chosen language out of them all.
Firstly, in 2009, it is aparent that the french language represents almost half of the chosen languages at 43%, followed by Italian wich stands at 20% representing a quarter of the chart. Then comes Spanish at 16%. The smallest portion of the chart is taken by German and russian with both respectively 12% and 9%.
In comparison, in 2014, French has decreased by 9% but still holds the first place amongst the other languages. Whereas italian increased to 24% representing a quarter of the chart, and in equality with spanich which rose as well from 16% to 24%. In contrast German slightly fell out to 2% making it stand at 10%. Finally Russian remains in the last place, representing the least amount of student with a meager 8%, having declined from 2009.
