The two maps illustrate the changes that occurred in the south wing of Walton Museum between 2008 and 2012. Overall, the area underwent significant transformation, with the most noticeable changes taking place on the eastern side of the building.
In 2008, the south wing had a traditional layout, featuring a reading room and a cloakroom on the eastern side. The central area housed a restaurant, while the western section had fewer amenities and included a terrace.
By 2012, the design reflected a focus on modernization and expansion. The eastern side was significantly developed, introducing two exhibition rooms, a Children’s Play Area, and a self-service café, indicating a shift toward technological and recreational enhancement. A lift was installed to replace the stairs, improving access to the upper floors.
In the central area, the shop remained unchanged, but the cloakroom was relocated to the second ground level along with the reception area, while a new floor was added above for the restaurant. The special exhibition hall remained in its original place, showing no change over the period. Additionally, the entrance was transformed into a closed entrance hall, now located beside the terrace.
