The maps illustrate some changes to the South WingsWing of Walton Museum from 2008 to 2012 following a redevelopment project.
Overall, the South Wing experienced considerable changes during the period shown. The noticeable differences between the two maps are the addition and replacement of some areas, while some features remained unchanged.
As can be seen from the maps, in 2008 the South Wing consisted of two levels, with a pathway on the western side. The first floor had the special exhibition room, the shop, and the cloaks room, cloakroom, while the reception, which was located next to the reading room and entrance wereentrance, was situated on the second floor. The stairs in the middle of the site connected the two floors.
By 2012, the structure had expanded to four floors, including a lift that connected all levels. The terrace and entrance hall were constructed above the special exhibition room, which still remained. The reception was demolished and extended to make way for a restaurant and a reception – cloaks room.reception/cloakroom. Additionally, the cloaks roomcloakroom on the first floor was replaced by new children’s play areas, while the reading room remained unchanged. A self-service roomarea and an exhibition room were built on the second floor, and a new exhibition room was introduced on the top floor.
