The chart illustrates the various employment sectors that hire three different age groups.
Overall, the sectors with the highest employment are “Other” and manufacturing, while local government, health, retail, and education occupy a moderate number of workers. Sectors like agriculture, catering, law, and accountancy attract the fewest employees across all ages.
In terms of the most popular areas of work, manufacturing accounted for the top position, comprising 12% of adolescents, 15% of adults, and the highest percentage of middle-aged workers, which was reported at 23%. Other sectors registered slightly lower employment rates than manufacturing but still constituted a significant number of workers. Adults made up the most jobs in the “Other” category, with 18%, whereas middle-aged individuals recorded only 9%, and young adolescents represented the largest portion at 21%.
Retail took up the highest employment rate among young adolescents, at 23%. Meanwhile, sectors such as health and education occupied around 9% to 15% of each age group. Local government employed 18% of middle-aged workers, making this age group the dominant workforce in that sector. Areas like law and accountancy received little interest, with less than 5% employment across all age ranges. Other sectors, such as agriculture and catering, were slightly more popular but still had less than 10% of the workforce.
