The table provides information about the number of people (in millions) who commuted with trains, buses, trams, taxis and metro in Milan between 2010 and 2014.
It is noticeable that all types of public transport exhibited an upward trend, with Metro
consistently recording the largest number of passengers throughout the period.
In 2010, it can be seen that Metro had a significantly higher number of passengers compared to other forms of public transport, standing at 3.0. This was followed by the others–trains, trams, buses–which showed a similar figure around 1.5 to 1.0, specifically at 1.4, 1.3, 1.0 each. Meanwhile, taxis had the lowest figure, at a mere 0.6.
Over the years, commuter numbers increased across all transport types. Trains and buses witnessed approximately a two-and-a-half fold incline in the number of passengers, reaching to 3.6 and 2.4 respectively by the end of the period. Likewise, the remaining public transport (metro, trams, taxis) also experienced an increase of around 1.6 times, accounting for 5.0, 2.2, and 1.0 consecutively.
