The table illustrates how the population, divided into various age brackets, varied from 2011 to 2012 in New Zealand.
Overall, although New Zealand demonstrated a rise in population between the two years, it experienced aging, with a considerable increase for those older than 49, and a moderate fall for their younger counterparts.
Upon closer inspection of the table, both age groups, under 15 and from 15 to 39, showed a decrease of 0.2%; despite the fact that the figure for the latter roughly doubled that for the former in both years, the older group registered at 1,577,256 in 2011 and 1,574,102 in 2012.
On the other hand, the other age groups displayed a rise; the second most crowded sector, with people aged from 40 to 64, fell from 1,331,907 to 1,331,898, equivalent to 0.6%. Similarly, the older age group also witnessed a growth of 0.4%, with 596,903 people in 2012. Generally, the total population increased by 0.6%, from 4,381,269 to 4,410,284 people.
