The table gives information about the share of people participating in seven different physical activities in a European country from 1999 to 2009.
Overall, while football registered the highest participation rate over the period, yoga recorded the lowest. Meanwhile, the proportion of people participating in swimming, golf, tennis, and yoga saw a slight increase, whereas participation in basketball and football declined, and volleyball fluctuated.
The figures for tennis and golf experienced a significant increase from 1999 to 2009, rising by around 8% each, from 25% to 33% and from 8% to 17%, respectively. In addition, swimming and yoga also experienced a little growth of about 3% each, with rising from 32% to 34% and from 10% to 13%; however, their figures remained unchanged for certain periods, with swimming at 34% between 2004 and 2009, and yoga at 10% between 1999 and 2004.
By contrast, the figures for basketball and football showed a downward trend. While the percentage of basketball declined slightly by 1% overall, football experienced a sharper drop of around 9%, falling from 57% to 48%. Despite this significant decrease in rate, football still remained the most popular sport throughout the period. Additionally, the proportion of volleyball exhibited some fluctuation, increasing from 17% to 20% between 1999 and 2004, before falling to 18% in 2009. This reflected an unstable trend compared with other sports.
