Overall, it is evident that collecting taxes in all countries increased by various degrees. Moreover, Sweden topped the chart with the highest share throughout the period.
Looking at the highest percentages initially, in 1975, Sweden stood at 46% and after 2 decades its proportion increased only by 5%. In 2005, its share soared dramatically to 70.1%. As for the USA, in 1975, the percentage of collecting taxes was 25.1% and in 2005 its proportion grew just by 2.3%.
Regarding the remained countries, in 1975, Korea’s and Japan’s percentages stood at 15.1% and 15% respectively. After two decades, the former’s percentage increased to 26%, while the latter’s to 23%. In 2005, the proportion of Japan went up dramatically to 32.1% and Korea’s one only to 27.3%. The share of tax collected as GDP in Turkey was 16.4% in 1975, after declining marginally to 15% in 1985, it went up to 27.4% in 2005.
