The graph illustrates the population of Sao Paulo, Jakarta, and Shanghai in 1990 and 2000. It also shows predictions made in 1990 about the population growth after a decade.
To commence with, the residents of Jakarta was around 10 million in 1990, which was estimated to grow and become 14 million by 2000. However, after 10 years, the total population in Jakarta exceeded expectations and increased to 17. 5 million. That was the only city among the three listed to have more residents than forecasted 10 years ago. The number of inhabitants in Jakarta doubled in 2000 from 1990.
Conversely, inhabitant growth in Sao Paulo was assumed to be 9 million in 10 years. However, the actual growth was only 3 million from 16 million in 1990 to 18 million in 2000. It was 6 million lesser than expected. Surprisingly, residents of Shanghai fell slightly instead of rising by 4. 5 million in 2000. From 13. 5 million in 1990, it was only 12. 5 million by the end of the decade.
Overall, the predicted inhabitants living in Jakarta and Sao Paulo was almost equal, (18 and 17. 5 million) in 2000, whereas Shanghai had significantly lower population, (12. 5 million). All three of the forecast was proven wrong
