Overall, Nokia and Motorola dominated the global mobile phone market in both years, and both companies increased their market shares in 2006. In contrast, most other manufacturers either experienced a decline or only modest growth.
In 2005, Nokia was the market leader, accounting for 32.5% of total sales. This figure rose to 35% in 2006, strengthening its leading position. Motorola also saw significant growth, increasing its market share from 17.7% to 21.1%, and remained the second-largest manufacturer worldwide.
Samsung ranked third in both years, although its market share fell slightly from 12.7% in 2005 to 11.8% in 2006. Sony Ericsson showed moderate growth, rising from 6.3% to 7.4%, while LG experienced a small decline from 6.7% to 6.3%.
BenQ Mobile recorded the most notable decrease, with its share dropping sharply from 4.9% to just 2.4%. Meanwhile, the combined share of other manufacturers fell from 19.2% to 16.2%.
