In summary, food, drinks, and tobacco took the lead in all five countries, whereas the bracket of leisure and education was responsible for the lowest figures. Of particular note is that Ireland ranks first in all categories of expenditure followed by Turkey.
Starting with the first category: food, drinks, and tobacco, Turkey and Ireland dominated the category. Turkey, the leader, was responsible for about one-third of the expenditure shares, followed by Ireland, which accounted for 28.91%. Italy, Spain and Sweden were similar, showing almost the same proportions. Spain was marginally higher than Italy, responsible for 18.80%, while Italy and Sweden constituted 16.36% and 15.77% of consumer spending, respectively.
Moreover, the second section: clothing and footwear led by Italy; however, the percentages were lower in contrast to the first category. Italy constituted 9% of the spending, whereas Turkey (6.63%) and Ireland (6.43%) were similar. Spain was larger than Sweden, which comprised of 6.51% and 5.40%, respectively.
Ultimately, leisure, and education sector was the least popular section in terms of consumer spending, led by Turkey at 4.35%, followed by Sweden, which accounted for 3.22% of consumer expenditure. Italy, on the other hand, was responsible for 3.20%, which highlighted a marginal difference compared to Sweden. It can be observed that Ireland and Spain indicated the lowest figures of 2.21% and 1.98%, in turn.
