The table gives information about students who studied at a particular Australian university in 2009.
Overall, it can be clearly seen that the highest percentage among each category of subject and student was English learnt by females, while students whose first language was not English had the lowest percentage. Students born outside Australia had a similar pattern in Physics and Maths.
In terms of languages, English was learnt by far the most females (72%). In distance second and third place were born outside the country and non-English speakers (20% and 12% respectively). The proportion of studying modern languages was relatively similar to English (68%, 16%, and 23%).
As for life sciences, students who were born outside Australia and whose first language was not English had a similar pattern among Physics, Maths, and Chemistry (38%, 49%, and 42%, and 56%, 56%, and 48% respectively). Meanwhile, a broadly similar percentage of females studied Maths and Chemistry (17% and 15%), while with a significant difference 56% of females studied Physics. Studying History was popular among 52% of females, followed by 45% and 31$ of other categories.
