The table shows the number of mobile phones sold, in millions, between 2006 and 2012 by five major companies: Nokia, Ericsson, Samsung, Motorola, and Apple.
Overall, Samsung and Apple saw big increases in sales during these years, while Nokia, Ericsson, and Motorola experienced a drop in their sales.
Looking more closely, Nokia’s sales dropped slightly from 345 million phones in 2006 to 335 million in 2012. Ericsson had a much bigger fall, with its sales going down from 74 million to just 28 million, showing the company was struggling in the competitive market. Motorola’s sales also dropped sharply, from 210 million phones to only 28 million, losing a lot of its market share. These declines reflect a larger trend of falling sales for older phone companies during this time.
On the other hand, Samsung and Apple had the opposite results. Samsung’s sales grew quickly, jumping from 117 million in 2006 to 396.5 million in 2012. This big rise shows Samsung’s success in the market through strong strategies and innovation. Apple, starting with only 2.3 million sales, saw huge growth, reaching 135.8 million phones sold by 2012. This shows how well Apple entered and established itself in the mobile phone market.
