The tabular data compares the number of universities in three subjects across five
different countries that were ranked in the top 200 globally in 2011.
Overall, it is evident that medicine had the fewest universities whereas biology had the most. The USA was ranked highest, with more than twice as many universities as Britain. When it came to the number of universities offering courses in three different subjects, Australia and Canada displayed nearly identical levels, while New Zealand was ranked lowest.
The United States had the greatest number of elite biology universities—69—followed by the United Kingdom, which had 30 top biology universities. There were just six top biology universities in New Zealand in 2011, while the same nine top universities were available in Australia and Canada.
Regarding other fields, there were 24 and 29 universities in the UK, while there were 54 in the USA for medicine and 58 for psychology. While there were 13 top medical and 17 top psychology universities in Australia, there were 12 top medical and 14 top psychology universities in Canada. In New Zealand, there were twice as many elite psychology universities as there were top medical universities, with four top universities.
